Marcus teaches high school biology using a hands-on philosophy of learning.
Story
Marcus’s inspiration for becoming an educator began when he tutored his younger sister in middle school. He discovered that learning becomes exciting when students are allowed to ask questions, try things, and even make mistakes along the way.
Armed with a Biology degree and Teaching Credential from San Diego State University, Marcus builds a classroom that feels like a mini research lab. His students conduct experiments, collect data, and even participate in citizen science projects.
One memorable project involved a beach cleanup where students collected water samples and analyzed microplastics. They presented their findings to the school board — a moment Marcus believes showed students the impact they could have on real environmental issues.
Outside the classroom, Marcus surfs, stargazes, and volunteers at a local nature outreach initiative. He joined Kina because he loves seeing students connect science to real life.
